Granada was created in 1956 as the weekday ITV contractor for the North of England, making shows from Monday to Friday. ABC aired over the weekend. The North region was split in 1968, Granada took the North West region, Yorkshire worked over the Pennines.
After a single ITV company was formed in 2002, "Granada" was the name chosen for programmes shown on other broadcasters, later taking the name ITV Studios.
