Biography

Broadcaster best known for devising, voice-overing and (later) presenting the odds-based quiz Winner Takes All. According to Wheeler's son, the show was devised as a multiple choice quiz to avoid situations where contestants had to say 'I don’t know the answer.'

He had a long career, presenting 13 years of Top of the Form and over 20 years of the BBC's Sunday evening programme Songs of Praise.

He died at the end of 2013, after a long illness.

Trivia

He also worked as a BBC producer in the north of England and made variety programmes with acts such as Morecambe and Wise, Benny Hill and Ken Dodd.

He was the older brother of fellow-broadcaster Peter Wheeler.
