Host

Elton Welsby

Broadcast

Granada, 1993 (15 episodes in 1 series)

Synopsis

Duff football quiz. Sides of three - two from a football club, completed by a celebrity fan answer sets of three questions for the chance to answer one more; think University Challenge in reverse, but with a quick-fire final round.

Key moments

Elton Welsby looking like he'd rather be somewhere else, probably because the year before he'd been commentating the 1992 European Championship on ITV and was now reduced to fronting a regional quiz show.

Champions

Preston North End (Liam Watson, Harry McNally, Gareth Ainsworth), who won "a £5,000 cheque for the charity of their choice and the Go For Goal trophy, which will be presented in association with Lloyds Metal Processors by a very special person indeed". McNally was an odd choice for celebrity fan, as between 1985 and 1992 he had managed the runners-up, Chester City.

Trivia

Ken Morley presented the prize to the winner. He was everywhere that year; those who saw Supermarket Sweep saw him open the supermarket.
