P is for... Pilot show - A test episode of a programme that is made in the knowledge that it may never be broadcast. It is used by producers as a way of testing the concept in a real TV environment. Sometimes a pilot programme is made to convince a potential buyer of the viability of a format. If the pilot show is made to high enough standards such that it could be broadcast on air, it is called a broadcast pilot.
