Biography

Former child actor, originally from Bootle in Merseyside, whose infectious enthusiasm has made him perfect for the 'vox pop hunter' on a huge number of shows over the years, from Noel Edmonds' Multi-coloured Swap Shop to The Big Breakfast. He appeared in the altogether, to much amusement or bemusement (your choice), on the naturist one-off Naked Jungle.

A lengthy battle with alcohol is reflected in the title of his autobiography - Shaken but not Stirred.

He died on December 11th 2017 aged 60 following a long illness.

Trivia

In 1971, aged 14, he played Fleance in Roman Polanski's film adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth.

He also made a cameo appearance in the first-ever episode of the classic BBC comedy series, "Open All Hours".

He married his "Swap Shop" co-star Maggie Philbin in 1982, but they divorced some years later.

He is the brother of The Great British Quiz hostess and one-time 3-2-1 contestant, DJ Janice Long.

He was offered the job of hosting Supermarket Sweep but turned it down.

In 2001, he webcast a rolling show from his house at the (now defunct) cheggersbedroom.com.
