Biography

Nicholas Hewer was born in Swindon in 1944, educated in Kildare, and founded a public relations business in 1966. One of their clients was Amstrad, through which Hewer came to know the company's chairman. When Alan Sugar agreed to host The Apprentice, he persuaded Hewer to act as one of the judges. Personable, and blessed with a dry wit, Hewer's withering put-downs gathered a following beyond the business community. After guesting on panel shows including Would I Lie to You?, Hewer was appointed as the new host of Countdown.

Off-screen, Hewer spends time in Northamptonshire and in south France, and goes on road trips across outer Mongolia.

Trivia

His hobbies include messing around with old tractors.
