Do you feel that your career is getting nowhere? Looking for that little bit of exposure on a mid-ranking digital television channel? Want to appear all altruistic and lovely when buying eight hours' of advertising? Then Stand-Up Hero could be right for you.

Comedians who hadn't enjoyed "significant" television exposure were encouraged to send three-minute clips, and a brief blurb about themselves, to the organisers. Some of the best were invited along to regional auditions, from where the cream went to the national final.

A leading men's magazine funded the programme, including a generous £10,000 prize to the eventual champion. A pilot programme in early 2010 led to a full series that autumn. A second series wasn't made, ITV concentrated on their own comic search show Show Me the Funny 2011.
