''Tattoo Artist'' had a clear visual aesthetic: a pinch of gothic, a dab of steampunk. It looked part of the counter-culture, and it was beautifully shot. But the competition format was nothing novel, and we felt the edit and narration told us what to think.

Synopsis

A contest to find a great tattoo artist. The judges - Jay Hardy and Rose Hutton - were familiar from E4's Tattoo Fixers programme, also made by Studio Lambert.

The contest followed the usual reality show rules: lots of people enter, they're given tests of skill and judgement, one leaves each week. The judges explained in advance what they were looking for.

Caution: tattooist at work.

Tattoo Artist had a clear visual aesthetic: a pinch of gothic, a dab of steampunk. It looked part of the counter-culture, and it was beautifully shot. But the competition format was nothing novel, and we felt the edit and narration told us what to think.

Title music

Stuart Roslyn and Matt Foundling

Trivia

Billed on some EPGs as E4's Tattoo Artist of the Year.
