Spelling Bee (1)

Freddie Grisewood

BBC Regional Programme, 30 January 1938-?

BBC Television, 31 May to 10 July 1938 (3 programmes)

Probably one of the most boring games ever, but nevertheless it was the first TV game show, transmitted live from Alexandra Palace on 31 May 1938.

Freddie Grisewood would invite people to spell a series of words in the usual spelling bee fashion. Err.... that's it.

Freddie Grisewood (in the headmaster's costume on the far left) challenges a young lady to spell a word.

Grisewood was the narrator of several films including (with David Dimbleby) The Victory Parade from 1946 and such gems as How the Motor Car Engine Works.
