Synopsis
From the makers of Love Island, a show for the European winter. They've swapped a villa in the Med for the savannah of southern Africa, where it's high summer.
The ITV press office promise "a group of young, hot singles living together under the searing sun as they take part in the ultimate battle of the sexes, in order to win a big cash prize." The show was stripped each night across the week, and so were the contestants - filling ITV2's quota of attractive people wearing not very much under the baking sun, while we shiver in The Beast From The East.
There were mental and physical challenges, there were romantic dates, there were public votes. There was a revolving door on the lodge, with people arriving and departing almost every day. We never quite knew whether the winner would be a team, a pair, an individual...
After a very strong start, viewing figures fell through the floor - a million for the launch, less than half that for the conclusion. Survival of the Fittest didn't make public conversation in the way Love Island does. While not a flop by any definition, ITV decided not to renew the expensive show for a second series.
