Biography
Aussie-born DJ, who started his career as a radio announcer in Melbourne, but arrived in the UK in 1957, working first for Radio Luxembourg and then, from 1961, for the BBC Light Programme, and subequently Radio 1. He was most associated with the BBC chart shows Pick of the Pops (on radio) and Top of the Pops (on telly) and developed a unique style using classical music stings between records.
Alan Freeman died on 27 November 2006, aged 79.
