Synopsis

Celebrities re-create famous dance routines from film and pop videos.

The star of Dance Dance Dance is the virtual reality stage. There are continuous video screens in the back, down the sides and in the floor. They allow the dancers to appear in any environment - an industrial factory, a marquee, a futuristic spaceport.

Dance Dance Dance A bright setting for this performance.

In the rich environment, the celebs attempt to reproduce celebrated dance routines. Fred Astaire dancing with himself, Danny and Sandy from Grease, Rihanna's "Umbrella" performance. A panel of judges offers constructive criticism and gives marks, and the best remain in the contest to win.

Dance Dance Dance featured performers who could already dance, no-one faced the steep learning curve of Ed Balls on Strictly Come Dancing. Unlike Strictly, there was no public vote, the judges' marks were final. Some viewers suggested the show was cold and sterile.

Host duties were split, Alesha Dixon was front of house and handled the judges, Will Best talked to the contestants backstage.

Dance Dance Dance Snap! Back to the future.

A hit when shown on RTL Netherlands, Dance Dance Dance didn't do so well here. ITV scheduled the programme on Sunday evenings, opposite Countryfile, and picked up many younger viewers.

But we'd seen the idea before - Let's Dance for Comic Relief had the same concept a few years ago. And there was little emotional impact, Dance Dance Dance often lost the celebrities amongst the dance troupe and the elaborate stage.
