Tarby's Frame Game

Winner Takes All

Biography

Born in Liverpool on 6 February 1940, Jimmy "Tarby" Tarbuck entered showbusiness as a Butlin's redcoat at Pwlhelli holiday camp in the 1950s. His first TV appearance was on Comedy Bandbox in 1963. He went on to host variety shows including Live From The Palladium, and spent twelve years hosting gambling game show Winner Takes All.

Tarbuck was created an OBE in 1994, for services to show business and charity.

His daughter, Liza Tarbuck, has also gone on to work in entertainment.

Trivia

He turned down the chance to host The Generation Game in 1982.

In the late 1970s, Tarbuck owned a horse called Winner Takes All. Its career best was second.

He made a very memorable appearance alongside his daughter Liza in one episode of 'Linda Green', playing Linda's long-lost Uncle Vic, who was suspected of actually being her father, due to their considerable physical resemblance and some worrying family revelations. Of course, all turned out well in the end - well, it usually does in comedy-drama like that.
