Biography

Dodger and diver who, despite his wideboy image, was publicly educated. Came to fame through the Channel 4 film review programme Moviewatch, and most of his subsequent formats revolved around films, chat or chatting about films. Golden era consisted of four years helming The Big Breakfast with people such as Denise Van Outen and Liza Tarbuck. In 2001, he signed a golden handcuffs deal with the BBC said to be worth £3m over two years. None of the projects in this period came to much. He took over the Capital FM breakfast radio show from Chris Tarrant in 2004, remaining there until top talent-spotter Richard Park declined to renew his contract in late 2011. Nowadays presents on Radio X and writes film reviews for The Sun.

Trivia

His previous jobs included grill chef, jewel courier, sales assistant, video shop manager and director of an experimental theatre company.

He served two years of a four-year prison sentence for cocaine dealing. This experience was used in the sitcom 'Orrible (it truly was) and MTV's Top Buzzer.

His first US TV series, My Kind of Town, was dropped just four episodes into its run.

He was made an honorary Butlin's redcoat in 2000. Apparently that's an honour.
