Neil Buchanan

(Although it's unlikely that many people have heard of Marseille, they do have a Wikipedia entry - so it might be worth incorporating them into Neil's bio)
(Of course, Neil played Smart Arty in ZZZap! - accompanied by that wonderful piece by Boccherini ;))

Biography

Born in Liverpool in 1956, Neil played guitar in a heavy metal band called Marseille before beginning his television career in the early 1980s. He hosted TVS's Number 73 and its replacement Motormouth on Saturday mornings, oversaw room raiding on Finders Keepers, and played French artist Smart Arty in comic book show ZZZap!, but is perhaps best known for hosting the CITV art show Art Attack, which he did for a stonking 18 years.

Trivia

Neil ran his own production company called The Media Merchants. Which alongside Art Attack also produced various Kids TV formats such as Zzzap!, Animal Crazy and It's a Mystery.

Since Art Attack's demise in 2007 Neil returned to his first love of rock music by reforming his pre-fame heavy metal outfit, Marseille for a short while. These days he focuses on serious art work and photography.

In 2020 Neil denied that he was street artist Banksy, after a number of rumours circulated online.
