Biography
Alternative comic who first gained attention with a successful Edinburgh Revue show The Hangover Show which the BBC turned into a one-off special in 1991. Apart from a part in the short-lived sitcom Mornin' Sarge, he went on to present many Channel 4 programmes about travel and faith such as Travelog, Tracks and Desperately Seeking Something.
Two books about his half-Irish roots, McCarthy's Bar and The Road to McCarthy, turned him into a multi-millionaire. Tragically, he died in October 2004, only a few months after being diagnosed with cancer.
Trivia
Roger McGough wrote a poem called November the Fifth to mark his death.
