Biography

Cockney comedian who was one of Britain's top entertainers during the Second World War, regularly topping variety bills and starring in a string of popular movies. In broadcasting, he had radio hits with Tommy Get Your Fun and Trinder Box but probably his greatest success was as compere of ITV's Sunday Night at the London Palladium.

He died in 1989 at the age of 80.

Trivia

He served as chairman of Fulham FC from 1959 to 1976.

His catchphrase was "You lucky people!"
