Synopsis

Ten celebrities are trained in gymnastics and circus arts by a professional coach. Alongside a professional partner, the celebs perform routines. The judges each award a mark out of 10, leading to a total out of 40.

The worst performances lead to The Vault, a vault over a vault (the gym apparatus formerly known as the vaulting horse). Public voting contributed to the placings in the semi-final, and entirely determined the winner in the final.

The interval act is performances by trained gymnasts, including judge (and Strictly Come Dancing champ) Louis Smith.

Amelle Berrabah works on the hoops.

Tumble fulfilled the public service remit to encourage sports participation. It attracted some viewers who wanted to emulate the skills displayed, and others who were more interested in the participants' dress (or lack thereof). We found the programme to be repetitive, there was little to break the cycle of video — performance — critique — scores. Viewers agreed, and the show's ratings fell as the series went on.
