Natasha Kaplinsky graduated in English from Hertford College, Oxford, and worked in the Labour Party press office for several years before joining Meridian TV as their early morning newsreader in 1997. She soon moved on to presenting the South Coast edition of their nightly news programme Meridian Tonight (with Fred Dinenage), before moving to London News Network and hosting London Tonight and Seven Days. In 2000 she joined Sky News and two years later moved to the BBC, co-hosting Breakfast with Dermot Murnaghan. She has also presented the Six O'Clock News and Children in Need.

In October 2007 she accepted a £1m exclusive contract with five, making her Britain's highest-paid newsreader.
