Biography

Scottish comedian, making up 50% (in numbers) and 30% (in height) of the comedy legend that is The Two Ronnies where his monologues and repartee with partner Ronnie Barker are fondly remembered. In the early days, he was a regular on clever BBC comedy series such as The Frost Report and, er, Crackerjack. In addition, he played repressed librarian Timothy ("Language, Timothy!") Lumsden in the 1980's BBC sitcom Sorry!, having also previously played a similarly downtrodden character in the 1970's sitcom "Now Look Here...!" and its sequel, "The Prince of Denmark". Later TV work included the 2013 series Ronnie's Animal Crackers and he starred in four series of a Radio 4 sitcom, When The Dog Dies.

He died on 31st March 2016, aged 85.

Trivia

His middle name is Balfour.

He stood in for Terry Wogan on "Wogan" for one week in 1987.

During his time on Small Talk, he was called a number of amusing things by the children, including "Mr Corset", "Mr Carpet", "Mr Courgette" and "Mr Carrot".

Appointed CBE in the 2012 New Years Honours list.
