After surviving all the ITV franchise rounds, Scottish Television established the Scottish Media Group (SMG), whose acquisitions included Grampian Television in 1997 and Ginger Productions in 1999. On 30 May 2006, both Scottish Television and Grampian Television were rebranded on-air as STV (the companies legally becoming STV Central Ltd and STV North Ltd respectively).
