List of radio quizzes

When we add these to the A-Z index, I suggest the genre should be 'Radio' for two reasons - first, it makes it clear what the show is from the start, and secondly radio shows are nearly always panel games or quizzes anyway. For shows that migrated to/from radio, the word Radio should be appended to the genre: as in : 'Panel game, Radio'. Fair enough? - DJB

• All the Way from Memphis - in-depth music quiz for nerds like David Quantick. Regulars are Tracey MacLeod and Andrew Collins. BBC Radio 4, 8th December 2004 to present. It's written and devised by the host, James Walton. "From the dawn of rock'n'roll to the bedtime of britpop, from Doo-wop to hip-hop, a new music quiz comes to BBC Radio 4, for all the young, and not so young, dudes. Written and hosted by James Walton."
• And I'm the Queen of Sheba (1997, Ken Livingstone MP chairs the panel game about lies, cheating and deceit)

• County Questions / Wiz Quiz / QED (Radio Leicester's quizzes for villages, Women's Institutes, and Schools respectively. Ran from the late 70s into 2000. Include on sheer longevity?)
• The Crew of Two (Simon Mayo, circa 1990 - Simon also had The Alphabetical Experience and - later, when he was on mid-mornings - Dead Or Alive?)
• Dealing with Daniels (oh-ho! quiz with 52 playing cards with a question on each one, players had to remember which questions had already gone otherwise they'd get a penalty, Radio 2)
• Does The Team Think? (qualifies as a "comedy panel game"?)
• Factasia (Mike Smith's quiz)
• Fair Deal (may not be a game show?)
• Fighting Talk - radio version still going on Five Live with Christian O'Connell
• First Impressions (1997-8, Pete McCarthy hosts, apparently - who knew?, team captains Alistair McGowan and Steve Nallon)
• Five Live Christmas Quiz (1994-6?)
• The Food Quiz (presenter: Jay Rayner)
• Foul Play (Simon Brett hosted and wrote the murder mystery plays which two panellists had to solve)
• The Gardening Quiz - Irene Thomas was on it once. No other details at the mo as INFAX is down.

• Great Rock and Pop Quiz Marathon (1984-5 - Tim Rice and Paul Gambaccini, plus a rotating cast of guests, spend the best part of a Saturday answering questions about pop and/or rock trivia, and it's all for charity. Notable for Mr Gambaccini leaving the quiz for two hours to present his regular show.)

• Jazz Score (1997, Benny Green) http://www.radiolistings.co.uk/jazzscore.html Jazz Score actually ran for 19 years from 1978 onwards. It was devised by Richard Wilcox. Like HIGNFY the entertainment was not really so much in the contestants (all Jazz illuminaries) giving the correct answer but the stories and anecdotes they gave in relation to each piece of music. The final two series were produced by Unique, the last going out in 1997. Benny Green hosted.

• The Name's the Game (what's this?, host?, with Barry Cryer and Duggie Brown (ser 1&2)/John Junkin (ser 3&4)) http://epguides.com/NamestheGame/ The comedy biography game in which Barry CRYER and Duggie BROWN along with their guests Ian LAVENDER and John JUNKIN attempt to sort out who's who. Chaired by Roger KITTER. Written by Tony HARE and produced by Richard EDIS. [1]

• Out of Order (political quiz extremely similar to Parliamentary Questions, which ran for several years on Radio 4 in the 1990s. The host was Patrick Hannan, and the team captains were MPs Austin Mitchell and Julian Critchley (later replaced by Guardian Political Editor Michael White when Critchley became too ill).
• Parliamentary Questions (Steve Richards chairs the light-hearted panel game about politics and politicians. Team captains Roy Hattersley and Patrick Cormack. Devised and written by Hugh Rycroft and David Spicer.)
• Play Your Hunch (Alan Freeman, early 60s. Needs research.)
• Popcall (Radio 5, pre-Five Live)
• Pop of the Form (Radio 1 80s quiz hosted by Mike Read and at one time possibly Simon Mayo.)
• Pop Score - Radio 2 panel game, late 80s/early 90s, Ken Bruce hosted, but not for the entire run (who else did it?).
• The Press Gang (1986-89, Glyn Worsnip, Gyles Brandreth; newspaper-based. Not to be confused with seminal children's drama. http://epguides.com/PressGang%5F1986/ )
• Punch Line - comedy quiz, devised by Myles Rudge, involved Monkhouse as a regular. Wogan hosted. See [2] for more.

• Quiz Kid (with Kid Jensen, Radio 1, late 70's to early 80's?, a weekly half-hour show with students teams answering pop questions on behalf of their Uni or Poly.)

• The Red Cross Quiz (1944, maybe before and after) - quiz in aid of the Red Cross, much in the same style as Comic Relief these days. Questions included things such as trying to guess which of three song clips involve the singer being sat on by the pianist, and which of three noises is that of a man walking in snow (the other two being a donkey chewing something).
