List of radio quizzes

When we add these to the A-Z index, I suggest the genre should be 'Radio' for two reasons - first, it makes it clear what the show is from the start, and secondly radio shows are nearly always panel games or quizzes anyway. For shows that migrated to/from radio, the word Radio should be appended to the genre: as in : 'Panel game, Radio'. Fair enough? - DJB

The DJ segments have been moved to this page:here.

Of use - Radio Listings - almost complete database back to 1997. Also the BBC's infax database: OpenBBC Infax

Still to do

  • All the Way from Memphis - in-depth music quiz for nerds like David Quantick. Regulars are Tracey MacLeod and Andrew Collins. BBC Radio 4, 8th December 2004 to present. It's written and devised by the host, James Walton. "From the dawn of rock'n'roll to the bedtime of britpop, from Doo-wop to hip-hop, a new music quiz comes to BBC Radio 4, for all the young, and not so young, dudes. Written and hosted by James Walton."
  • Call the Tune (1950s/early 60s)
  • County Questions / Wiz Quiz / QED (Radio Leicester's quizzes for villages, Women's Institutes, and Schools respectively. Ran from the late 70s into 2000. Include on sheer longevity?)
  • Does the Team Think? (qualifies as a "comedy panel game"?)
  • Five Live Christmas Quiz (1994-6?)
  • The Gardening Quiz - Irene Thomas was on it once. No other details at the mo as INFAX is down.
  • Great Rock and Pop Quiz Marathon (1984-5 - Tim Rice and Paul Gambaccini, plus a rotating cast of guests, spend the best part of a Saturday answering questions about pop and/or rock trivia, and it's all for charity. Notable for Mr Gambaccini leaving the quiz for two hours to present his regular show.)
  • Have a Go - whirligig-tv link
  • The Name's the Game (what's this?, host?, with Barry Cryer and Duggie Brown (ser 1&2)/John Junkin (ser 3&4)) http://epguides.com/NamestheGame/ The comedy biography game in which Barry CRYER and Duggie BROWN along with their guests Ian LAVENDER and John JUNKIN attempt to sort out who's who. Chaired by Roger KITTER. Written by Tony HARE and produced by Richard EDIS. [1]
  • Newscall (1994, Dominick Diamond)
  • On the Ball (title uncertain, Radio 5 football quiz from 1994, host Kevin Day?)
  • Punch Line - comedy quiz, devised by Myles Rudge, involved Monkhouse as a regular. Wogan hosted. See [2] for more.
  • The Red Cross Quiz (1944, maybe before and after) - quiz in aid of the Red Cross, much in the same style as Comic Relief these days. Questions included things such as trying to guess which of three song clips involve the singer being sat on by the pianist, and which of three noises is that of a man walking in snow (the other two being a donkey chewing something).
  • Sportscall (1990-99?, Danny Baker, Dominick Diamond)
  • True Lies (spin doctors, 00)
  • The Unfair Quiz (1988) - epguides.com link
  • What's the Score? (Pubs competed for the annual Teamtalk 252 Trophy. Station came off air before series finished. 2002.)
  • Whispers (2004-5?, Gyles Brandreth's quiz about scandal, team caps: Anthony Holden and Lucy Moore)
  • Who Goes There? Host: Martin Young. Appears to have had a series from 1995 to 2002. Francis Wheen and Fred Housego were team caps/regulars since 1998 with one guest in their team; three different individual guests before then. http://epguides.com/WhoGoesThere/
  • Wits End - Lance Percival hosted. Basically just a comedy quiz game show with a bunch of comedians. Radio 2 around 1978-79 time.
  • The Year In Question (1993-4)
  • You Ain't Heard Nothing Yet - Capital Radio comedy panel game, 1980s, devised and hosted by Jeremy Pascal. Phil Swern was a regular (probably as a sort of on-air adjudicator rather than a competitor).

Identical titles - need splitting into (1) and (2)

  • Know Your Onions - DIFFERENT to the TV show. extremely twee gardening quiz hosted by the world's most patronisingly slow host, possibly BBC Wales only?
  • The Movie Quiz - DIFFERENT to the TV show. 1990. Chris Serle hosts. Details on INFAX.
  • Say the Word - DIFFERENT to TV show. (language, 2001, Frank Delaney with the Nimmo Twins). http://www.radiolistings.co.uk/saytheword.html

  • Where in the World? - (DIFFERENT to the current title so needs seperating into (1) and (2)) - geographical panel game/quiz presented by John Simpson. Celador production. 2005-06.
