Biography

Best known for her work presenting children's programmes (Blue Peter 1980-3, Saturday Superstore 83-7, Going Live! 87-93), Sarah's other work includes the odd spot of acting (most famously playing herself in Ghostwatch) and various things for daytime telly including stints on This Morning. She also co-presented, with Simon Mayo, an interesting early 1990's science and environmental series called "Life On One".

Trivia

She and Mike Smith survived a dramatic helicopter crash in 1988. They later married.

Her first big break was acting in the children's drama, "The Swish Of The Curtain". When she and the rest of the cast went on Blue Peter, Sarah was persuaded by the editor, Biddy Baxter, to audition for the show as a replacement for Tina Heath, who was due to leave to have a baby. The audition was successful and Sarah has never looked back since!

She played the eponymous lead role in a BBC pantomime, "Aladdin And The Forty Thieves", screened around 1983. It had an all-star cast, which also included Kenneth Williams, Todd Carty (who played Ali Baba), Floella Benjamin, Christopher Biggins, Johnny Morris and Terry Nutkins.

Her younger sister, Laura, has occasionally appeared on TV with her, once helping model some (no doubt uncomfortable!) Victorian corsets on Blue Peter (with three fellow-sufferers, namely Isla St Clair, Maggie Philbin and Tina Heath). The two sisters holidayed together on the BBC's "Holiday" programme twenty-odd years later.

Greene made a splash (in more ways than one) when she appeared on a celebrity edition of The Krypton Factor in 1988. While tackling one of the water-jumps, she was descending the pyramid-like wall the wrong way and an army instructor was yelling at her not to do it that way - so she pulled him into the water with her.
